I have neglected this blog for way too long, but it was the best way to make time for my family and my main blog, EvinOK.com. I stopped posting as much because I didn’t want to be criticised. I had been told by other Americans moving to Ireland that my experience won’t happen to them because they’re more flexible and open-minded or they’ve traveled more than I must have. Assumptions were made. Judgments were made. I didn’t like feeling that we were not in it together. It felt lonely to be in it alone. So, I stopped blogging here. I stopped putting myself out there. I stayed safe in my inner circle. But that’s not me.
Since the death of my father this December, I’ve done A LOT of thinking and reflecting. I decided that my journey making a life as an American in Cork, Ireland is far from over so I am returning to continue sharing my experiences, advice, and perspective here. Bear with me please because this is just MY EXPERIENCE. Try to remain open-minded and respectful in my space. Your experience may be drastically different, after all you’re a different person entirely, so please respect my truth without judgment or blame as I respect you and your truth.
I am easing back into posting on this blog and will try to return to the helpful and open posts I shared when I first started this blog in 2008 when I left California for my new life in Ireland. I will also share more about the experience on my TikTok and maybe my Instagram too.
