This weekend marks the premiere of a new special brunch menu item at Brick Lane (click here to read the overview of brunch there in a previous post here) and we were one of the first to try it. Not because we have connections, but because we arrived bright and early (and hungry) for brunch as it was being written on the specials board. Talk about timing! So, here’s the low down on Brick Lane’s modern twist of the traditional steak and eggs.
Flat iron steak, poached eggs, asparagus, béarnaise sauce with fries. This special is special indeed. There is a subtle depth of flavor to the béarnaise, like a touch of paprika that takes it from basic to delightfully complex. That goes so well with the steak. The fries soak up the sauce at the end too!
I ordered my steak medium and it was cooked to perfection. The asparagus was firm but cooked completely and flavorful.
Of course, if you’re on meat-free January or want a classic brunch option like waffles or a fry-up, Brick Lane has a full menu.
