Seven Years of Blogging Stats in an Infographic

February 6, 2015 by Evin

Seven years. Seven. Wow. Seriously? Ok, actually six years and nine months. Still. Wow. I started this blog on May 5th, 2008 when it became official that I was moving to Ireland with my husband. There have been some big (and happy) surprises since that day… We are still in Ireland (surprise #1), we now have a child (surprise #2), and I’m an award-winning blogger (surprise #3).

Over the years, this blog has evolved in many ways and certainly matured, but essentially it remains the same. I started it to share with my friends and family so across the pond, they could feel connected to my new life here as an expat. But then people I didn’t know started reading my posts because being away from the place where you were rooted for so long is something a lot of people can relate to, evidently.

A breathtaking September sunset in Cork City. Today, a piece I wrote is featured in the National Geographic Travel Blog. The post is all about Cork City. http://intelligenttravel.nationalgeographic.com/2014/09/10/i-heart-my-city-evins-cork/

So, let’s briefly go over what has changed and what has remained the same…

THE SAME

I still write about food A LOT (except while pregnant when I ate only Buffalo chicken, beets, carrot juice, watermelon, and Bombay mix)

My posts are still 99% positive about life here and the expat experience

I still feel like a guest in my new home city, which gives me a unique and curious outlook when researching and writing blog posts

CHANGED

My photographic skills are better, which enhances my posts

I post more lists and resources because I’ve noticed those tend to be most popular

Fewer posts in general because I try to consolidate posts if it is about a similar topic, trip, or interest. Like the time I wrote several posts about a long weekend in Barcelona when one long post would have sufficed.

Of course, the numbers tell the real story…

Wow, very impressive, I just came to your blog recently so I can see I have a lot of catching up to do, especially on vintage posts.

  2. Funny how some people enjoy having their virtues reduced to numbers!

Enough about me. What are you thinking?
