August, Cork, Ireland: Today, Franciscan Well and The Craft Collection are delighted to announce that Franciscan Well’s Jameson Stout has won a gold medal at the International Beer Challenge Awards in the Speciality category. Franciscan Well’s IPA also took a bronze medal in the Ales category.
Established for 17 years, the International Beer Challenge awards reward and promote exceptional beers. They are highly sought-after industry honours attracting thousands of entries each year and are judged by leading beer experts.
Franciscan Well’s Jameson Stout is the fruit of a collaboration between Dave Quinn, Master of Whiskey Science at Jameson and Shane Long, Founder of Franciscan Well Brewery in Cork. Dave was keen to explore the effects of Jameson casks from the Midleton distillery on beer. Being a local brewery, Franciscan Well was the perfect choice for this joint project and a natural fit in many ways; both companies hail from Cork, both distil or brew using Cork water and both are craft brands passionate about marrying tradition with innovation.
Franciscan Well Jameson Stout was developed by Shane using Jameson Whiskey casks handpicked by Dave. The result is a smooth, rich stout with unique flavour properties that speak of the passion and expertise with which it was brewed.
Franciscan Well’s IPA was brewed as a result of customer demand for real IPA – a hoppier version of pale ale which originated in Britain in the 19thcentury. Franciscan Well’s crisp, balanced IPA is dry-hopped with Citra and has an unusually high speciality malt base which complements the additional hop content.
Shane Long, Founder of the Franciscan Well Brewery said: “We are delighted to have won the acclaim of the International Beer Challenge.
