This week was my first excursion to Cork City’s very own Tweet Meet Tuesday hosted by Café Gusto on Lapps Quay. After seeing the Tweets flying for weeks and the initial invitational post by Café Gusto, I finally extracted myself from the clutches of my laptop long enough to join the fun. I ventured over to be greeted by a peaceful mid-morning on the Quay.
Shortly after arriving, I (aka @FreckledPast, @CookingPeas, and a few more) met Eoghan (aka @eoghanol) and mere seconds later Paul (aka @omaniblog) himself. Of course, the company grew to with arrival of Donal (aka @donal_cahalane) and Allan (aka @financial_al). Best of all, this was a casual meeting. I had not coordinated in detail to meet with this particular cross-section of Cork’s Twitterati. The conversations ran the gamut from the book Fish!: A Remarkable Way to Boost Morale and Improve Results (Further reading: When Fish Fly: Lessons for Creating a Vital and Energized Workplace from the World Famous Pike Place Fish Market & Catch!: A Fishmonger’s Guide to Greatness) to LeWeb 2010 in Paris to Enterprise Ireland and NAMA to sodium habits in Irish & American foods. Paul even fit in time for an impromptu AudioBoo interview with Allan and me (embedded below for your listening pleasure).
Did I mention the most delicious part of Tweet Meet Tuesday? It’s a BOGO (Buy One Get One) coffee treat. As part of the clever networking of the casual meet-up, Café Gusto (@CafeGusto) offers TweetMeetTues customers one free coffee (of equal or lesser value) for every coffee purchased. Eoghan benefitted from the free cup that came with my cuppa Joe. It’s a great way to buy a coffee for your new Twitter friend and when there are scones available, it’s a good excuse to have a second cup. It doesn’t hurt that Café Gusto strives to be the best cup of coffee in Cork City!
