Today, we arrived in Barcelona for a long weekend. Cork (ORK) is a convenient spot for many flights within the European Union. Ryan Air, Aer Lingus, Aer Arann, Wizz Air, BMI Baby, Air Southwest, and Jet2 all serve ORK (Cork International Airport). If you want to dream of your next holiday or mini break, ORK has a list of all the places you can go to from Cork in their Scheduled Flight Destinations List. The list includes the airlines serving each destination and the seasons when these flights are available. Each airline tends to have slightly different baggage and fare rules so be sure to read the fine print.
When we arrived at the airport, we checked in easily (and quickly) then were left with ample time on our hands so we browsed the downstairs bookshop. Upstairs before security, there is a bar and a cafeteria. I had a custom sandwich that was delicious and a bottled lemonade, while my husband had a Bulmer’s on ice. Refreshing! Past security (literally, five paces beyond the X-Ray machine) is the Duty Free Shop. Oh my, the selection. It was dreamlike when we walked in and a woman asked us if we would like a free whiskey tasting. Yes, Bridget, there is a Santa Claus. We tasted three different kinds of whiskey from the Cooley Distillery in County Louth and ended up selecting a boxed bottle of Tyrconnell Single Malt for our friend in Barcelona. The lesson from all this, dreams can come true at your local airport!
