Laundry in the City

For those who have lived in Europe, you will not be surprised by my next comment. I find the in-apartment washers to be very small in capacity. Our combination washer-dryer can hold about three items (or eight pairs of normal socks) per load. This is challenging since we dirty slightly more than that each day (when you factor in towels, linens,…). We actually use cotton dishcloths, dishtowels, and napkins instead of paper/disposable, so this adds to laundry chores a bit.

So, we now have an entire footlocker full of dirty clothes. Wait, make that two footlockers (there is a big pile hiding behind it). Knowing it will take a very long time to wash everything in our small capacity washer, it is time to look into city laundromats.
Since we are right downtown and do not have a car, carrying the laundry a few blocks is expected. Anything further than a few blocks will require a taxi to get there (and back). The options include:
  • Lennox Laundrette, 138 Bandon Road
  • Shandon Laundry, 106 Shandon Street
  • Western Road Laundrette, 21b Western Road
  • Douglas Street Laundrette, 78 Douglas Street
  • The Laundry Basket Laundrette, South Gate Bridge
  • Duds ‘n Suds, Units 1-3 Marybank, Douglas Street
Yes, this has made me long for the large capacity washers and dryers we were used to back in the States. Ah, and I remember thinking our stackable washer/dryer set was low capacity compared to my parents’ set-up. Sigh. The good old days.

Enough about me. What are you thinking?
