Where Have All The Milkmen Gone?

With all this singing of Nine Maids A-Milking, it got me wondering, does the milkman still exist? After a day or two online, I discovered it is not as rare as you think. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 1963 29.7% of milk distribution was home delivery (as opposed to store bought), but by 2005 this sank to a mere 0.4%. Now your doorstep may once again behold a bounty of milk (and/or groceries) when you return from a long day at the office. It also means you are reusing the milk bottle multiple times, saving the planet from disposable containers. And in Western Europe, the milkmen tend to drive Milk Floats, which are electric vehicles! Not to mention that the deliveries are made in the wee hours of the morning so less traffic and idling (if they are driving gas-powered vehicles).
