Cranberries, Turkey, Potatoes, Stuffing – Thanksgiving Groceries in Cork
November 27, 2008
When I moved to Ireland five months ago I planned ahead and brought one can of cranberry sauce so I’d have it for Thanksgiving. I really should have brought green salsa because there were three or four different cranberry options when we went grocery shopping today. Rest assured, Americans, an authentic (subjective, I know) Thanksgiving meal can be created in Ireland! We saw a gourmet cranberry/port sauce at Marks & Spencer as well as fresh cranberries, three kinds of gourmet prepared stuffing, lamb, duck, turkey, and salmon. Tesco has cranberry sauce in a jam jar (near ketchup and steak sauce). The English Market has whole turkeys as well as large breast portions. SuperValu has stuffing in a box and the canned cranberry. Dunnes and almost anywhere else would have sweet and regular potatoes as well as parsnips and Brussels sprouts. So far, we’ve only found sour cream at Dunnes and find M&S to have the widest selection of prepared desserts and whipping/whipped creams.
